The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has condemned the death of advocate Tom Ouya Imbukwa, who reportedly died after being assaulted and tortured by unknown individuals.
In a statement on April 22, 2026, LSK President Charles Kanjama (SC) described the circumstances surrounding his death as “tragic and unacceptable”.
Kanjama also extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late advocate, noting that the legal fraternity had been left devastated by the loss.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Tom’s family, friends, and all members of the legal fraternity who mourn this devastating loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Our colleague was assaulted, tortured, and murdered by unknown persons. The circumstances surrounding Tom’s death demand our unequivocal condemnation and immediate action,” read part of the statement.
LSK Calls for Investigations
The LSK President is now calling for immediate action by security agencies, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Police Service to conduct swift, credible, and thorough investigations.

He further appealed to members of the public with any information about the incident to come forward, assuring them that their anonymity and safety would be protected.
In addition, LSK warned that there should be no sanctuary for those responsible, despite their status in the society, highlighting that accountability must be upheld without exception, regardless of who is implicated.
“We call upon the National Police Service and the DCI to conduct swift, effective, and credible investigations. If state actors were involved in this torture and murder, there must be no sanctuary for them,” read part of the statement.
The body reaffirmed its commitment to pursue justice, stating it would not relent until those responsible are identified and held accountable.
LSK Promises Support to the Family
LSK also pledged full legal support to the family throughout the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings, assuring them of continued solidarity and support as they seek justice.
Reiterating its position, the Law Society said justice for Tom Ouya Imbukwa was “not negotiable,” warning that it would not remain silent as members of the profession are targeted and killed.
The death of Tom Ouya comes months after the death of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was the victim of a cold-blooded daylight murder.

His family, led by his brother James Maluki, urged the government to provide answers to the murder that happened on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, on Magadi Road.
Kyalo Mbobu, the third-born in a family of 12 siblings, was described as the pillar of the family and as someone who interacted well with everyone.
