The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced job opportunities for its graduates at a company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a notice on June 4, NYS stated that 60 positions are available for trained fabricators, with a basic salary of approximately Ksh51,087.
The company will also provide a food allowance of 350 AED per month (Ksh12,367.49).
“Our client, a leading fabrication company based in Dubai, dealing with steel, structural and industrial fabrication, as well as pipe work for ship repair and rigging, has opportunities for NYS-trained fabricators who are eager to develop their skills overseas,” NYS announced.
Successful candidates will design, develop, and implement fabrication processes and procedures.
They will create and maintain detailed technical documentation.
The candidates will also read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout and placement of steel structures and reinforcing bars.
Additionally, they will measure and cut steel bars to the required lengths using tools such as shears, torches, and saws.
Other responsibilities include bending and shaping steel bars using hand tools and machines.
They will also secure steel bars in concrete forms using wire clips or welds and install steel structures and reinforcing bars according to specifications and safety standards.
Candidates will collaborate with design engineers to optimise designs for manufacturability.

Qualifications and Requirements
Interested candidates must be NYS graduates with a diploma or trade certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, essential for foundational knowledge.
They must have completed a course in Welding and Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering (Production), or any metal fabrication-related course.
Candidates must also possess excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively within a diverse team.
They must be capable of reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings.
“Travelling Passport requirement – Those who pass the test and do not have travelling passports will have their passports fast-tracked,” NYS stated.

NYS Terms and Conditions
Successful candidates will receive a two-year contract that can be renewed.
The company will cover a round-trip economy class air ticket between Kenya and the UAE every two years.
However, the first flight from Kenya to the UAE will be financed by the agent.
The employment visa and resident permit will be provided by the company.
The company will also provide accommodation, transport, uniforms and PPEs, medical insurance, group life insurance, and employer’s liability.

Service charges are not provided by the company, and training is in accordance with the Employee Work Agreement.
Candidates will undergo a 90-day probationary period following their arrival in Dubai.
They will work eight hours per day for six days and are entitled to 30 days leave per year.
Overtime, service gratuity, leave pay, and other benefits are according to labour laws in the UAE.
