Nakuru Girls High School is a distinguished national girls’ secondary school situated in Nakuru City, Nakuru County.
Its roots stretch back to 1927 when it was established as Francis Scott High School, originally serving the children of white British administrators.
The school had by the late 1950s evolved into a well-equipped institution, featuring modern classrooms, science laboratories, and a weather station for geography practicals.
After Kenya’s independence in 1963, the school was renamed Nakuru High School to reflect the country’s newfound sovereignty and began admitting local students.
Nakuru Girls High School history
In 1964, it began admitting girls, becoming a co-educational institution, and in 1982, it appointed its first African principal.
Nakuru High School continued to grow, welcoming students of diverse races and backgrounds.
However, with swelling enrolment over the decades, the school formally split in 2006, giving rise to Nakuru Girls High School as a separate entity dedicated solely to educating and empowering young women.

Today, the school stands as one of Kenya’s few national schools, recognized for its commitment to providing quality education and holistic development for girls.
Each year, over 300 students are admitted to Nakuru Girls High School based on academic merit and individual choice, in line with Kenya’s education policy.
Performance
Until 2023, admissions were based on performance in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.
This was, however, replaced by the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), introduced under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework.
Nakuru Girls has consistently upheld a strong academic record in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations nationally over the years.

The government previously issued a directive outlining the maximum annual school fees that parents should pay.

Nakuru Girls High School was placed in Cluster Three (III), meaning the official annual fee cap for students is approximately Ksh75,798.
