Linus Kaikai, the Group Editorial Director and Head of Strategy at the Royal Media Services (RMS) has announced changes in the giant media house’s sports department.
In a memo shared with the staff members, Kaikai announced the consolidation of the Group’s sports news across all platforms. According to him, all sports content will henceforth be under one section named the RMS Sports Center.
Consequently, sports news across the various TV, Radio and Digital platforms owned by RMS will be served by editors and reporters operating through the RMS Sports Centre.
“I am pleased to announce the consolidation of Group’s sports news across all platforms and the creation of an all-under-one sports section named the RMS Sports Centre,” Kaikai announced in his memo to RMS employees and seen by The Kenya Times.
“This means that sports news across our TV, Radio and Digital platforms shall be served by editors and reporters operating through and out of the RMS Sports Centre.”
In addition, the RMS Editorial Director announced the reorganization of its staff members in new changes that will now see Young Muthomi promoted to the role of the Managing Editor of Radio News and Sports in charge of the RMS Sports Center.

More changes at Citizen TV
At the same time, a source close to the RMS intimated to The Kenya Times that Mike Okinyi, who previously worked as the Sports Editor will continue working as a Sports Reporter under the new RMS Sports Center.
The changes came days after Citizen TV launched a new football show named Football 90, in an apparent move to revamp its sports department.
In the promo videos shared prior to the launch, Citizen TV described the new show as one that would bring a “new experience” focusing on football analysis.
The Dennis Prit Road-based media house has also been through a period of changes in its newsroom recently, after the departures of veteran news reporter Chemutai Goin and Hassan Mugambi- both of whom left for positions in the government.
