Nation Media’s Science and Health journalist, Brygettes Ngana, has been awarded the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology in Africa (OFAB) awards.
Impressively, she got the first runners up position in the continental competition, in the television category.

Taking to her official X account, Ngana joyfully announced the news expressing her gratitude to her editorial team.
“What a beautiful way to start December, on a winning streak! I had a podium finish in this year’s 2023 OMAs Awards. I remain grateful to the entire editorial team and management,” Brygettes Ngana posted, sharing a photo of the well-deserved certificate.

Furthermore, Brygettes divulged on the competition’s details, noting some impressive particulars.
“This was a continental competition featuring 20 journalists from 10 African Countries. To represent Kenya and be a 1st runner up is more than encouraging!” she stated.

Additionally, she encouraged every journalist, especially those new to the field to keep going to achieve their goals.
“It doesn’t matter where you are. Keep your eyes on the goal. You will get there! Trust and believe!” Brygettes added.

About the OFAB Awards
The Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology in Africa (OFAB) awards is a continental award that is meant to honor journalists who have been reporting on agricultural biotechnology.
Additionally, the award has a Kenya chapter that specifically awards Kenyan journalists on the same.
The OFAB 2023 awards ceremony was held at White Sands Resort and Conference Center in Dares Salaam, Tanzania on 1st December 2023.
Notably, the award seeks to promote excellence in agricultural biotechnology reporting in the categories of television, radio, print & online.
According to OFAB Kenya chapter, three journalists are selected for each category.
Of these, the winner is awarded a plaque, a certificate of recognition and cash prize of Kshs100,000.
Further, the first runner earns a certificate of recognition and cash prize of Kshs75,000 while the second Runner-up is awarded a certificate of recognition and cash prize of Kshs50,000.

The 2023 call of participation was announced on 31st March 2023. Of note, the OFAB warns that any previous year’s winner cannot participate in the consequent years’ competition.
Other Journalists Feted by OFAB
Notably, in an announcement in September, Nation Media journalists Sam Doe and Jesse Chenge were also feted by the 2023 Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) Kenya Media Awards.
In this announcement, it was noted that Brygettes Ngana and Sam Doe of NMG won the biotechnology reporting award for their feature story on the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in Kenya.
The other correspondent, Jesse Chenge won the coveted prize for a 2022 report on effects of climate change on farmers.
