Kenya Air Force Commander, Major General Bernard Waliaula, has been inducted into the International Honor Roll at Air University in Montgomery, United States.
The recognition announced by the Ministry of Defense on Saturday, April 18, 2026, is reserved for outstanding international graduates who demonstrate exceptional leadership and academic excellence.
The honor places Major General Waliaula among a select group of global military leaders acknowledged for rising to the highest levels of command in their respective countries while upholding distinguished service records.
Why Bernard Waliaula Was Inducted
His induction follows strong performance in the Grade 3 and Grade 1 staff courses completed in 1996 and 2011, respectively, alongside a long and impactful career within the Kenya Air Force.
According to the recognition criteria, the International Honor Roll celebrates officers who combine academic distinction with exemplary leadership and strategic influence in military service.
General Waliaula’s inclusion was described as a reflection of both his personal professional trajectory and his contribution to Kenya’s defense leadership.

The Ministry noted that the recognition also underscores the growing profile of the Kenya Defense Forces on the international stage.
It highlighted that continued investment in advanced military training, leadership development, and global partnerships have strengthened Kenya’s role in regional and international security.
“As Kenya’s military footprint expands in both operational and diplomatic spheres, honours such as this reinforce the country’s reputation for cultivating leaders who excel not only in command, but also in thought leadership and strategic engagement on the world stage,” the Ministry said.

The Kenya Air Force Commander Military Career and Education
General Bernard Waliaula joined the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) in 1987 and was commissioned in April 1988 after completing his officer cadet training, marking the beginning of a distinguished military career spanning nearly four decades.
He has served in various command and staff roles within the Kenya Air Force and the wider Kenya Defense Forces, earning recognition for his leadership, professionalism, and commitment to service.
Maj. Gen. Waliaula is an alumnus of the College of Defense Studies in China, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in the Science of National Security Strategy. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Military Operational Art and Science from Air University in the United States.
In addition to his academic qualifications, he has undertaken several military courses at different levels, further strengthening his operational expertise and strategic leadership skills.
Over the course of his career, he has held key appointments, including Commander of an Air Defense Squadron and Base Adjutant. He has also served as Commanding Officer of the Base Administration Wing and as Colonel in charge of Supply and Work Services at Kenya Air Force Headquarters.
