Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano has issued a statement after a tragic road accident involving tourists along Dundori-Oljororok Road in the Gichaka area, Nyandarua County.
At least six people were confirmed dead while 27 others sustained injuries in the crash on the evening of June 9.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 10, Miano expressed sadness over the accident and extended her condolences to the families.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident involving tourists, which occurred last evening along Dundori-Oljororok Road. My heartfelt condolences to the affected families during this difficult time,” Miano said.
Miano urged drivers to exercise caution on unfamiliar roads.
She also wished the injured passengers a quick recovery.
“We wish the injured a quick and full recovery, as I urge our drivers to be extra careful, especially along unfamiliar roads. Our sincere sympathies,” she added.

Reports indicate that the vehicle carrying the tourists lost control, rolled several times, and then landed in a ditch.
Among the deceased were four men, one woman and a child.
A photo posted by the CS shows the white bus overturned on its side, with its roof torn off.
The other 27 were rushed to the Nyahururu Hospital with serious injuries from the crash.

Nyandarua Commissioner Confirmation
Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdlisack Jardesa confirmed the deaths and injuries.
Jardesa said the victims were travelling to a hotel in Nyahururu.
Additionally, the Commissioner said the police are conducting investigations into the crash.

He explained that the police are yet to establish the nationalities of all those who were on board.
“We have confirmed that six people have died in the accident. However, we are still working to establish their nationalities,” he said.
“The injured survivors are receiving treatment at Nyahururu Hospital, and we will provide updates as more details come in.”
Eyewitnesses Narrate Ordeal
Eyewitnesses narrated that the bus lost control after it started raining in the area.
The witness said the bus rolled several times before hitting a tree and landing in the ditch.
