Kamau Ngamau, a Professor of Horticulture with over three decades of experience in higher education, research, and administrative leadership, is the Vice-Chancellor of The Co-operative University of Kenya(CUK). He was appointed in May 2018.
Before his appointment, he served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor in Academic Affairs and as the Deputy Principal, Academic Affairs at the Co-operative University of Kenya.
He is an alumnus of Nairobi School who holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Horticultural Sciences from the University of Hanover, Germany.
Kamau Ngamau holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Science degree in Horticulture from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
Additionally, he has a second master’s degree in organizational development from USIU, Kenya.
Kamau Ngamau Career Background
In 1993, Kamau served in various capacities at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology( JKUAT), rising through the ranks from Assistant Lecturer to full professor in 2013.
In JKUAT, he served as a Professor of Horticulture and also as the Chair of the Horticulture Department, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Director of the Board of Postgraduate Studies.
In May 2018, Kamau Ngamau was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of The Co-operative University of Kenya after serving in an acting capacity.
Kamau has numerous publications in internationally refereed journals and has successfully supervised many Undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students.
He is a recognized research scientist and consultant in Horticulture. He has attended and presented seminar papers in various Local and International workshops and Conferences on cross-cutting issues in Higher Education and in his area of expertise.
Achievements
Under his leadership as a VC, CUK saw a 27% increase in the number of graduating students and hosted major events, including the 2nd Co-operative Movement Stakeholders’ Annual Conference and the Platform Cooperativism Consortium Conference in 2024.

He also led the university to win the Education Sector Award at the 2025 ICS Champions of Governance Awards in its debut appearance.
In 2025, Kamau received the 11th Utumishi Bora Awards (UBA) by the Kenya Christian Professional Forum, for his commitment to integrity in leadership.
Kamau has published extensively in international, peer-reviewed journals on topics in agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, and biotechnology, with over 30 publications and a Google Scholar citation count exceeding 757.
