PAUL WAMAE

NAME  PAUL WAMAE
AGE  N/A
GENDER  MALE
OCCUPATION SENIOR COUNSEL AND LEGAL PRACTITIONER

Paul Mathari Wamae is a distinguished Kenyan lawyer recognized for his extensive contributions to the legal profession and public service.

He is listed among the elite group of Kenyan lawyers who hold the rank and dignity of Senior Counsel, joining other notable figures who have been conferred such as former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga and Paul Muite.

In 2013, he was part of the legal team representing radio presenter Joshua Arap Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the cases related to the 2007–2008 post-election violence in Kenya.

Wamae is an active member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and has practiced extensively in the Kenyan court system.

Early Life and Educational Background

Paul Mathari Wamae completed his primary legal education in Kenya, obtaining his law degree before proceeding to the Kenya School of Law, which is a mandatory institution for any advocate seeking admission to the Kenyan bar to practice as an Advocate of the High Court.

He was formally admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a qualification that requires passing the Bar Examinations and completing a supervised pupillage program.

His advancement to the rank of Senior Counsel implies a lifelong commitment to legal scholarship and a demonstration of a distinguished level of contribution to the development of legal jurisprudence, and a high degree of professional merit over a minimum of 15 years of practice.

Career Background and Achievements

In 2020, Wamae was formally conferred with the rank and dignity of Senior Counsel (SC) by the President of Kenya.

In International Defense Counsel, he served as a legal representative for radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, being part of the defense team during the high-profile cases involving crimes against humanity following Kenya’s post-election violence in 2007 and 2008.

For over three decades, the legal practitioner has been an active member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), practicing as an Advocate of the High Court.

His expertise spans complex civil and criminal litigation, as well as alternative dispute resolution, and is recognized for his technical mastery in constitutional law and administrative procedures.

Achieving membership in the Roll of Senior Counsel entitles him to join an exclusive group of approximately 50 advocates in Kenya, granting him the right to sit at the front of the court and wear unique professional robes.

Over decades of active practice, he has contributed to several landmark cases in the High Court and the Court of Appeal, many of which are cited in the Kenya Law Reports as precedents for future legal interpretation.

Wamae is recognized for his extensive mentoring of younger advocates, ensuring the transfer of professional ethics and legal skills to the next generation of Kenyan lawyers.

His appearance before the ICC at The Hague cemented his status as a lawyer capable of navigating complex international legal frameworks, a rare feat among Kenyan advocates.

Paul Wamae’s Family Background

Unlike prominent political figures, Wamae does not publicize details about his spouse or children, and he strongly separates his professional legal practice from his private family life.

Net Worth

There are no public valuations or records of his exact net worth, in line with the directive that Kenyan advocates are not required to disclose their personal wealth publicly unless they hold specific government-appointed offices.

His financial status can be inferred from several factors:

Senior Counsel Rank: Advocates with the title of Senior Counsel (SC) command the highest legal fees in Kenya due to their expertise and the complexity of the cases they handle.

High-Stakes Litigation – His role in international cases, such as the ICC defence team, involves significant professional compensation typical of global judicial proceedings.

Private Practice- the advocate operates a successful private legal practice in Nairobi as the Managing Partner of Wamae & Company Advocates, which serves high-net-worth individuals and corporate clients.
