Kenyan Lawyer and Professor David Kariuki Muigua has been appointed to the inaugural Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) Court of Arbitration.
In a notice dated March 3, 2025, AIAC named Muigai as a member of the Court of Arbitration
Prof Muigua, a Chartered arbitrator, joins the recently established AIAC Court of Arbitration (AIAC Court), which seeks to elevate the role of Alternative Dispute Resolution globally from its seat in Malaysia,” read the notice.

Muigua’s appointment to the 25-member AIAC Court of Arbitration represents a major milestone for Kenya in international dispute resolution.

The court, headquartered in Malaysia, seeks to provide neutral, independent, and efficient global arbitration services, with members drawn from leading ADR practitioners worldwide.
Commenting on his appointment, Muigua described it as an honor to the people of Kenya.
“My appointment to the AIAC Court is an honor to the people of Kenya as it recognizes our national alternative dispute resolution aspirations, which I cherish,” Prof Muigua said. He added, “As an AIAC Court Member, I will strive to further entrench and reinforce Justice systems that promote Economic advancement through International Commercial Arbitration principles,” said Muigua
The AIAC Court’s establishment follows the formalization of the Second Supplementary Agreement to the Host Country Agreement between the Government of Malaysia and the Asian African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO).
Kariuki Muigua Career Profile
Kariuki Muigua is a highly accomplished law scholar with over 26 years of practice as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
He joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Bachelor of Laws, completing in 1988
His legal journey kicked off at the Kenya School of Law, where he earned a Diploma in Law in 1989.
That same year, he was admitted to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya on 18th December and later enrolled in the Master of Laws (LL.M.) program, graduating in 2005.
Driven by a commitment to advancing his expertise, Muigua undertook a Ph.D. in Law at the University of Nairobi, which he completed in 2011.
In addition to his formal university degrees, he expanded his expertise in alternative dispute resolution by enrolling for a Diploma in Arbitration from the United Kingdom in 2012.
