Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has announced a temporary traffic disruption along Moi Avenue in Mombasa on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
In a public notice, KRC said the affected section will run from the Moi Avenue-Tangana Road roundabout to the Moi Avenue-Mogadishu Road roundabout.
“Kenya Railways wishes to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption on Moi Avenue in Mombasa due to the planned closure of a section of the road. The affected section will run from the Moi Avenue-Tangana Road roundabout to the Moi Avenue-Mogadishu Road roundabout,” the statement read.
The corporation explained that the disruption is necessary to facilitate emergency repairs on the Mbaraki Rail Over Road Bridge.
“This closure is necessary to facilitate scheduled emergency repair works on the Mbaraki Rail Over Road Bridge, located along Moi Avenue in Mombasa. The works will take place on Sunday, 1st March 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.”
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and follow traffic management instructions from police officers and marshals.
Kenya Railways List of Routes to Use During the Traffic Disruptions
According to KRC, motorists are advised to follow the recommended alternative routes during the closure.
- From KPA Gate 10 and the Docks area: Mogadishu Road → Zanzibar Road → Shimanzi Road.
- To access KPA Gate 10 and the Docks area: Tangana Road → Mijikenda Street → Lumumba Road → Shimanzi Road.

The corporation expressed regrets over any inconvenience caused and appreciates the cooperation of the public during these essential works, which are crucial to maintaining the safety and reliability of railway infrastructure.

Kenya Railways Announces Major Rail Upgrades Ahead of AFCON 2027
Earlier, Kenya Railways Corporation announced plans for significant railway infrastructure developments to support the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
In a public announcement on January 14, Kenya Railways said the decision was due to Kenya’s successful joint bid with Uganda and Tanzania to host the continental tournament.

The government of Kenya is prioritizing transport solutions to ensure smooth movement during the event, which will feature matches at Talanta Sports City Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.
According to Kenya Railways, one of the key initiatives is to construct a railway station adjacent to Nyayo National Stadium and to introduce a new railway spur line from Nairobi Central Station through the Nyayo Stadium area and Kibera, terminating at Talanta Sports City Stadium.
The project is designed to guarantee commuters safe, reliable, and affordable transport options, reducing congestion and improving accessibility to match venues.
The corporation added that the upgrades will provide an effective transport solution, ensuring easy access to and from stadiums for fans, officials, and teams.
