The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced a new method for students and schools to confirm KCSE registration ahead of the 2026 exams.
KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere made the announcement during the release of 2025 KCSE results at Chebisas High School on January 9, 2026.
Dr. Njengere explained that the new system requires both schools and candidates to log into the KNEC portal to verify registration details, with principals responsible for uploading candidate photos for authentication.
He has urged parents to confirm whether their children have registered earlier to avoid issues as exams approach.
“I wish to take this opportunity to invite every parent who has a child entering Grade 6, Grade 9, and Form 4 this year. Please take an interest in finding out if your child has been registered.”
In addition, he stated that exam registration will open in February, with the portals becoming active for schools and candidates to manage data.
“We will open the registration portal in February, and it will remain open through March,” said Njengere
New Methods to Confirm Kcse Registration for Students
Under the new system, schools and candidates are required to verify KCSE registration details through the KNEC portal, with principals responsible for uploading candidate photos and ensuring all information, including full names, gender, year of birth, citizenship, and registered subjects, is accurate.
According to KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere, the registration portal will open in February and remain active through March, allowing schools and candidates to manage their data ahead of the exams.

He urged parents of children entering Grade 6, Grade 9, and Form 4 this year to actively check with schools to confirm registration, noting that delays often cause last-minute issues.
Additionally, KNEC will launch an SMS platform in April to enable parents to conveniently confirm their registrations.
Dr. Njengere also encouraged senior school teachers to use the portal for free competency-based assessment training, helping them strengthen their skills in line with the CBC curriculum.
