Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba released the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results at a function held at Chebisas High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, on January 9, 2026.

According to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), approximately 996,078 candidates from 10,755 examination centres sat for the exams nationwide, and the results are now accessible through multiple official channels.

How to Check 2025 KCSE Results Online

The Official KNEC portal

Candidates can now check their results through the official KNEC portal at https://results.knec.ac.ke.

To access the results:

  • Step 1: Visit the KNEC Results Portal.
  • Step 2: Enter your Index Number and one of your names as per KCSE registration
  • Step 3: Select the examination year (2025).
  • Step 4: Click “Submit” to view and print your provisional results slip.

The portal has been optimized to handle high traffic and includes verification steps to prevent unauthorized access.

Individual schools will also receive hard copies of the result printouts and result slips.

Candidates who experience delays online are advised to visit their respective schools for printed result slips.

The Ministry has urged candidates and parents to ignore misinformation and rely only on official channels.

“Do not fall for fake links or social media claims. The only legitimate platform for accessing KCSE results is the KNEC portal,” CS Ogamba stated on January 7, 2026.

Meaning of Symbols in KCSE Results

When reviewing your KCSE result slip, you may encounter certain symbols that highlight specific situations regarding your performance or eligibility.

X – Indicates that you were absent for one or more papers in the examination. This arises when a candidate does not sit a subject paper, resulting in an overall absence record.

Y – Shows that your results have been cancelled in one or more subjects due to involvement in an examination irregularity. This may involve misconduct or non‑compliance during the exam session.

P – Means that your results have been pended. This action occurs when there is an issue with your entry—for instance, a mismatch in details such as the KCPE score used during KCSE registration.

W – Means that your results have been withheld. This arises if there is suspicion of malpractice, prompting ongoing investigations before your result can be released.

U – Stands for ungraded, indicating that although you sat for the examination, your results could not be graded. This usually occurs due to failure to meet the award criteria or admission requirements.

How to Verify and Correct KCSE Result Errors

After downloading your KCSE result slip, candidates should confirm that all details are accurate.

The candidate should begin by checking their personal information, including their full name, index number, and school code, to ensure these match the registration records.

Once the personal details are verified, the next step is to review the subjects listed on the slip.

Every subject registered for should appear correctly, and the grades assigned should correspond to the correct subjects without any omissions or duplications.

Any blank fields, incorrect subject codes, or mismatched grades should be treated as errors requiring immediate attention.

If an error is detected, the candidate must report it to the school principal or examination officer without delay.

Supporting documents such as the original registration form, admission details, and any evidence confirming the correct information will be required.

The school will then escalate the matter to the Kenya National Examinations Council through the Query Management Information System (QMIS), which is the official platform for handling corrections.

After the query is submitted, the candidate should follow up regularly through the school or the KNEC portal to monitor progress until the correction is finalized.
