Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has released university and college placements for the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates.
The students will now be able to know the universities or colleges they have been placed in.
While speaking at the Kenya School of government, in Nairobi on Monday, 31, CS Machogu stated that 2022 KCSE Candidates should check their placement by sending their index numbers starting with the KCSE year via SMS to 20842.
CS Machogu added that the placement results will also be available on the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) student’s portal.
Moreover, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) finalized the placement exercise after the third revision.

The KCSE class of 2022 can now view their placement on the KUCCPS portal.
Likewise, Students now have one month to prepare before the start of the academic calendar for tertiary institutions in September.
The Education CS announced that 870,561 students were eligible for university, college and TVET placements.
Out of these, 285, 698 applied for placement out of which 285,167 students secured placement in various universities.
Furthermore, 144,500 have secured placement in TVET institutions.
New Portal for Scholarships
Education CS has unveiled a new portal for students to apply for scholarships and loans from the Higher Education Loans Board and the Universities Fund.
CS Machogu announced that University, College and TVET students in need of funding should make formal application for the scholarships through the Higher Education Financing Portal.
Likewise, the formal application will be made through www.hef.coke
He added that the scholarship, loans and bursaries platforms is ready for use and directed vice chancellors and principals to ensure admission letters are sent to students by latest August 2, 2023.
According to the CS, this will allow students to apply for loans and bursaries from August 3, 2023, to midnight of August 27,2023.
This new model of funding for university and college students officially marks the end of the automatic capitation all government sponsored students have been enjoying for several years.
The sponsorship will now be based more on a student’s economic background.
New Funding Model
The government unveiled a new funding model for vulnerable and extremely needy students.
According to the new model, needy students will not have to pay school fees as they will be funded through government scholarships, loans, and bursaries.

Needy students joining universities will receive government scholarships of up to a maximum of 53 per cent and loans of up to 40 per cent.
Furthermore, the less needy students joining universities will be funded through a government scholarship of up to a maximum of 38 per cent of the cost of the programme and 55 per cent in the form of loans.
Students joining TVETS will be funded 32 per cent for government scholarship, 48 per cent for loans and their households will pay 20 per cent of the costs.
