The former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi has claimed that his name was secretly removed from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party register before he joined the Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 Westlands parliamentary elections.
During an interview, Nelson Havi stated that his name had been removed from the party’s nomination in Westlands and from the voter list, even before April 2024, when the UDA elections were held.
“I am a registered voter in high college, sorry, Hospital Hill Primary School, that is where the elections of UDA were being held for a polling station. I was not in the voter register, I had already been removed, they’d picked some lady, some nameless lady from HomaBay and brought her to be the UDA chairperson there,” he noted.
He argued that the experience he had made it unbearable for him to remain in UDA, adding that he had also been cautioned by the people to exit the party because it would taint his image of the person he is.
“It became unbearable for me to be associated with UDA, because I am an easy-going person, and I walk by the streets, and I drive myself because I have not stolen anyone’s money, and you will be mocked by people, and they will tell you, ‘Look, have you been a good person? Please get out of that party of thieves,” said Nelson Havi.
Nelson Havi Joining DCP Party
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, leader of DCP, previously welcomed Nelson Havi into the party, describing him as a prominent legal expert whose experience could contribute to the party’s legislative work.

Gachagua said the DCP values include great legal minds for legislation, representation, and oversight, suggesting that Havi’s legal background would enhance the party’s capacity in Parliament and beyond.
“I am happy to welcome Nelson Havi SC, one of the country’s legal experts, to walk with us as he pursues representation of the people of Westlands constituency in the National Assembly,” said Gachagua.
He described Havi’s decision to join DCP as part of a strategy to attract professionals, including lawyers, economists, and policy experts, into active politics.
“The country needs leaders who understand the law, governance, and accountability. Oversight is not a slogan; it is a skill. That is why leaders like Havi are critical to our journey.”
Havi’s move coincides with that of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament and former Kieni constituency MP Kanini Kega joining the party.
Gachagua welcomed Kega, describing the party as the home of progressive leaders who aspire to lead in the future.
Nelson as a Member of UDA
Nelson Havi joined the UDA party in November 2022 and was welcomed by the party leader, William Ruto.

The members who were present to welcome him to the party included Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, former National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, and Kimani Ichung’wah and Rigathi Gachagua.
This followed his announcement that he would vie for the Westlands parliamentary seat in 2022 alongside MP Tim Wanyonyi, who was running on an ODM ticket.
Soon after the announcement, Havi joined the Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress before the switch to UDA.
