The Salaries and Remuneration Commission(SRC) has scrapped sitting allowances for members of parliament.
The move will take effect after the August elections
According to SRC, scrapping sitting allowances for MPs will save the taxpayer some Sh382.2 million
The National Assembly has 349 MPs while Senate has 67 members, all earning a uniform sitting allowance of Sh5,000.
SRC says MPs will however get an enhanced taxable car grant of Sh10 million every five years
The commission has at the same time retained committee sitting allowance for MPs with a committee chairperson getting 15,000 per sitting , Sh10,000, for Vice chairperson while a member gets Sh8,000.
SRC also rejected a proposal by MPs to have their salaries raised to Sh1.2 million and retained it at Sh710,000.
