Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has been reportedly abducted after he was attacked by armed gunmen, his lawyer Ken Echesa has confirmed.
While taking to his official social media account, Salasya said the men were masked and armed with AK47.
“We have been attacked by men with AK47. Wako (they are) masked with ak47,” he said.
It was also reported that his car was shot down after multiple unidentified vehicles intercepted and opened fire on his convoy.
“I have just been attacked by unknown individuals claiming to be DCI officers. These people, heavily armed and moving with force, ambushed my convoy, disarmed my security team—confiscating their firearms—and pursued my vehicle. One of my security personnel managed to escape and helped me flee into a nearby bush for safety,” Salasya stated.
“They shot at my vehicle, aiming directly at me. Shortly after, they emerged with at least 15 AK47 rifles and confronted me with a chilling message—one I cannot disclose at this time for security reasons.”
Peter Salasya Allegedly Arrested After Attack by Gunmen
He however went on to mention that he had been arrested on his way from Isiolo Nanyuki road.
Salasya was addressing residents of Isiolo Town during his 2027 presidential familiarization tour.
This comes days after Salasya narrowly escaped arrest at a hotel in Mombasa on Saturday May 10, 2025 at night after residents confronted the police officers.
Videos circulating on social media, showed several armed police officers wearing plain clothes and masks at the hotel where the Mumias East MP was residing.
Speaking shortly after the incident, MP Salasya said the men—who claimed to be police officers—failed to produce any identification documents or an arrest warrant.

He further noted that their vehicle had no number plates, raising suspicion over the legitimacy of the attempted arrest.
“I want to categorically condemn the reckless, shameful, and cowardly attempt by unidentified individuals purporting to be police officers who stormed my hotel residence in Mombasa earlier today to unlawfully arrest me,” he wrote on his official X account.
“Let it be clear, this was not an arrest. It was a criminal act disguised as law enforcement—an attack not just on me as a Member of Parliament and 2027 presidential candidate, but on the democratic space of this nation.”
Salasya Declares Bid for 2027 Presidential Election
The incident occurred just days after Mumias East MP publicly declared his interest in contesting the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
The MP said he will launch his bid under a new political movement that is yet to be named but promised to break away from ‘traditional politics driven by tribal alliances and money’.
“Fellow Kenyans, after deep reflection, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the state of our nation, I, Peter Kalerwa Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East Constituency, hereby declare my intention to vie for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the 2027 General Election,” the lawmaker said in a statement.

He said he had been motivated to vie for the seat due to a “profound desire to offer bold, transformative leadership that will reposition our great nation for industrial growth, economic empowerment, and social justice.”
“This movement will embody the dreams and aspirations of a new Kenya: a Kenya where opportunity is not a privilege for the few but for all of us,” he stated.
On Saturday, the outspoken lawmaker took his presidential campaigns to Malindi town in Kilifi County, where he accused the current government of sidelining the youth and failing to address their needs.
Salasya has also toured all four western Kenya counties, Vihiga, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Busia, to popularise his twin drives.
However, not many people see him as a serious contender, even as others believe he should give it a try.
