Former Assistant Inspector General of Police Philip Kipchirchir Tuimur died at his home on Saturday, December 6, after collapsing.
According to an obituary shared on December 11, the late Philip Kipchirchir died at the age of 59. His family confirmed that he passed away on December 6, 2025, at his home in Kapsabet, Nandi County.
“It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of Philip Kipchirchir Tuimur (AIG), who went to be with the Lord on 6th December 2025 at his home in Kapsabet, Nandi County,” read the part of the announcement.
Andrew Tuimur, the deceased’s brother, told authorities that the officer suddenly collapsed, prompting the family to rush in an attempt to save him.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Kapsabet High School grounds from 9:00 am. He will later be laid to rest at his home in Kabutiei village, Kapsabet, Nandi County.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” ended the announcement.
Early Life and Family
Tuimur, born on January 9, 1966, was the son of the late Edwin and Emily Tuimur.
Philip has left behind his wife, Dr. Hilda Chepchumba Tuimur of the University of Kabianga, and his children, Ian Tuimur of Kenya Airways, Everlyne Tuimur, and Sharon Tuimur, all based in the United States.
He was also a grandfather to Matteo Kibet Tuimur Canzoneri.

He was the brother of Dr. Andrew Tuimur, Leah Tuimur, the late Hellen Tuimur, Dr. Richard Tuimur, and Mark Tuimur, and brother-in-law to Christine Tuimur and Caroline Tuimur.
The family described him as a humble and kind man who served with honour throughout his career in the Kenya Police Service, where he rose to the rank of Assistant Inspector General.

Philip Kipchirchir Career Background
Tuimur served in the National Police Service (NPS) for decades, rising through the ranks of the General Service Unit (GSU).
Philip held several command and administrative positions before attaining the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG).
He later served as Regional Police Commander in the Coast, Northeastern, and Eastern regions, overseeing security operations across vast and often high-risk areas.
After his regional postings, he was recalled to the headquarters and deployed to Vigilance House, where he continued to serve until his death.
His career, however, was marked by turbulence. He was once dismissed from the service after a National Police Service Commission vetting panel found him unsuitable to continue serving.
He was later reinstated under circumstances that remained unclear within security circles, with details of the process never fully disclosed.
