The Azimio La Umoja coalition has announced the resumption of public barazas and town hall meetings across the country.
The move comes barely one week after the suspension of anti-government protests.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Chairman of the Azimio Executive Council Wycliffe Oparanya said the forums will provide an opportunity for the coalition to explain to Kenyans their next course of action regarding issues affecting the country.
The first town hall meeting is scheduled to be held in Nairobi on Thursday, April 13.
“As the negotiators take up their responsibilities, we will embark on a series of direct engagements with members of the public through town hall meetings and public Barazas. We will hold the first town hall meeting in Nairobi on Thursday, 13th April 2023, to be followed by a people’s Baraza at the Kamukunji grounds on Sunday, 16th April 2023,” reads the statement.
“The purpose of the town hall meetings and public barazas is to enable the party explain to the people where we are and the upcoming course of action following the suspension of protests.”
Azimio called off its weekly anti-government protests to allow for a bi-partisan engagement with the government on several demands, among them lowering the cost of living.

On the Azimio side, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Makueni Senator Enock Wambua, MPs Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Amina Mnyazi (Malindi), David Pkosing (Pokot South), and Otiende Amollo (Rarieda) will form the negotiating team.
