A majority of Kenyans want former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to part ways with President William Ruto and contest for the Presidency in the 2027 general elections. TIFA Opinion Polls show that 28 per cent of Kenyans would like Raila to rejoin the opposition and contest himself
The poll focused on the expectations that are influenced by attitudes towards the Broad-Based Government (BBG) and Odinga’s political position in 2027.
However, 23 per cent want Raila to support Ruto’s re-election, while 18 per cent voted for him to rejoin the opposition and support another candidate.
Another 14 per cent said Raila will have retired and will take no part in the elections.
There is also 16 per cent who are not sure of Raila’s position in the next election.
Only 28 per cent support the BBG compared to 54 per cent opposing it.
There are 25 per cent of Kenyans who have no opinion about the arrangement.
Confidence in the Next Election
TIFA said half of all Kenyans, 50 per cent, are ‘not confident at all’ about the integrity of the next election
For instance, nearly three times as many BBG supporters, 38 per cent, are “very confident” that they will be free and fair as compared with BBG opponents, 13 per cent.
Conversely, while just under one-third of BBG supporters, 30 per cent, are “not confident at all” about this, nearly twice as many as BBG opponents, 59 per cent, hold this negative view
TIFA stated that this is a reflection of the fact that the BBG is in power and that its leader, President Ruto, will be a candidate for a second term.

Why Ruto-Rail Can Win
The majority of Kenyans who support the BBG now indicate they intend to vote in the next election as compared with those who oppose it.
According to the Poll, 89 per cent of those who support BBG said they will vote, compared to 79 per cent who oppose it.
“If true, that could give the Ruto-Raila cooperation an electoral boost (assuming such cooperation lasts through the election),” TIFA said.
