Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati sparked an online debate about the 2022 General Election.
At the same time, Chebukati went hard on Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot and reminded him that he did not qualify to vie for the presidency.
He was replying to a comment by Aukot who accused him of being biased to most of the candidates.
“You did not meet the requirements to stand as a presidential candidate in 2022, period,” said the former IEBC chief.
In his statement, Aukot accused Chebukati of being fake, adding that the nomination process was pre-organized.
“You couldn’t understand basic constitutional provisions and biased to most of the candidates.
When history is properly written, you will be named as the worst chairman of IEBC. After all, you were not even the best during the interviews,” said Aukot.
Earlier on, he had said that the 2022 General Election was the freest, fairest and most credible election in Kenya’s history.
Further, the former IEBC boss stated he recently presented a paper titled “Role of Technology in Improving the Integrity of the Electoral Process in Kenya”.
“Fact, 99.9% of Presidential result forms were electronically transmitted to the public portal within 24 hours of closure of polls,” wrote Chebukati.

Chebukati Take
In the video, Chebukati explained that the results transmission is key in the election process.
He explained that transmission was the last mile test for IEBC in the 2022 General elections.
“The law says presidential election results must be electronically transmitted.
We processed and transmitted these results in a quick and speedy manner,” he said.
Further, the former IEBC chair said form 34 As, which contain accurate dates of results aligned to each polling station, were scanned, and sent electronically to the IEBC tallying centre.
He added that the timely results were available to stakeholders and the public to view.
In addition, the retired polls manager said IEBC worked with telecommunication service providers and in areas where there was no network, the commission brought satellite modems.
This he says gave IEBC 99% of the tally forms which were uploaded within 24 hours of closure of polls.

2022 Elections
Chebukati presided over the hotly contested 2022 General Election with the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga contesting the win of President William Ruto.
His declaration of William Ruto as the winner on September 15, 2022, left the two camps divided on the transparency and fairness of the elections.
At the same time, President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza wing has hailed Chebukati as a national hereo while the Azimio Coalition accuse of mismanaging the elections.
