The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned a Member of Parliament (MP) over allegations to hire goons to disrupt the public participation process regarding the impeachment motion tabled against Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua.Â
Kirinyanga Women Representative Njeri Maina has been invited to appear before the County Criminal Investigation Officer to clarify the allegations.
“Good evening Muheshimiwa, there are serious allegations against you that you are mobilising goons to cause chaos on Friday during public participation on DP impeachment motion. It is in this regard you are invited to appear at the CCIO Kirinyaga office tomorrow the 3/10/2024 at 1000hrs to send light on this allegation,” reads the invite.
Maina accused the government of being involved in the invite signed by Regional Criminal Investigation Officer (RCIO) Central Dr Abraham Mugambi.
“Surely, the more things change, the more they remain the same. Governments for you,” Maina said.
Maina has been a strong supporter of Gachagua and has accompanied him to meetings in the Mount Kenya region.
In a video on September 28, Maina said the impeachment plans have constantly been used as a threatening tool against the Deputy President.
The MP noted that the motion has been around for about six months, and its proponents have been using it to silence the DP from speaking his mind.
However, Maina stated that the people are with Gachagua and urged the MPs to table the impeachment motion so they can resolve the issue once and for all.
She pointed out that someone is behind the motion, trying to divide the Mount Kenya region.
“The Mountain is united; they haven’t touched it. Even if they buy the MPs and Senators and bring the impeachment motion, we can’t allow them to touch the Mountain,” she said in another video on September 29.
Maina said the DP campaigned for President William Ruto during the 2022 elections and his political career will continue even after the impeachment motion.
“All these will be controverted. The lies and the truth will be set apart,” she said in another post.
