Senate Democrats are divided over whether former Vice President Kamala Harris should run for president again in 2028, after losing all seven battleground states to Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
According to The Hill, although some Democrats are sceptical, many are not ready to rule her out completely because she remains one of the most recognisable figures in the party.

Harris recently returned to the spotlight with a high-profile speech at a San Francisco gala, where she criticised Trump’s first 100 days back in office.
The former Vice President accused Trump of causing “the greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history.”

At 60, Harris is said to be weighing her next move. She could run for governor of California in 2026, or try for the presidency again in 2028.

Democrats on Supporting Harris for a 2028 Bid
One Democratic senator, who asked to remain anonymous while speaking to The Hill, was blunt, saying that they would not support Kamala for another bid.
“No, she had her chance, the American people delivered their verdict, and she should move on,” said the Senator.
However, Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.), a former presidential candidate, acknowledged Kamala’s visibility but doesn’t see her as the clear frontrunner just yet.
“I think time will tell. I think she will add value to the national conversation. What’s going to happen over the next six to 18 months is going to be lots of Democrats are going to have lots of different opinions about what our priorities should be.
“What are the values we have to put first?” Hickenlooper said.
Moreover, Hickenlooper explained that despite her 2024 loss, Kamala shouldn’t automatically be counted out.
“Every election is unique. We always try to draw analogies and inferences. I don’t think it disqualifies her that she lost,” he added.
Some lawmakers are staying open to the idea, especially since no strong alternative candidate has yet emerged.

Other Senators in Support of Kamala
Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) ,who had in 2016 discouraged Clinton from making another attempt, seems more flexible when it comes to Kamala
“I’m a big fan of Kamala Harris, I enjoyed serving with her. I thin,k given the time frame that we have, which is very different from what we were dealing with last time, that it’s going to be an open process,
“Anybody who thinks they’ve got what it takes will step into that and someone will emerge,” The New Mexico senator said.
Steve Jarding, a Democratic strategist, said Kamala is a legitimate candidate because of her experience in the white house and her proven abilities.
“She obviously was vice president for four years. She got thrown into a 107-day election, which may not have been a fair read, probably not fair” on her abilities,”
“She’s got a tremendous donor base to work with. She’s got experience. I would be careful if I were the Democrats to throw out. Who has a better résumé, for instance?” he questioned.
The former vice president has not announced any decisions about her 2028 bid for the top seat.
