Education Background of Maina Kamanda
Maina Kamanda began his primary school at Kagaa Primary School between 1964 and 1970.
He joined City High School, where he pursued his O-level between 1971 and 1974.
In 2002, he went to the United Kingdom, where he obtained a General Certificate in Education.
Additionally, he holds a Degree in BA from the Swiss Management Centre University and a Higher National Diploma from the Stratford Business School.
Kamanda holds a certificate in County Governance from JKUAT.
Career Life
He began his career in the Hospitality Industry, serving as an assistant manager at Stag’s Head Hotel and then later served as a manager of Hillcrest Hotel.
In 1979, Maina Kamanda began his political career as a councillor in Ngara, a seat that was transformed to MCA under the new constitution of 2010. He served as a councillor for 15 good years before upgrading to a higher level of Member of Parliament in 1997.
He gained more experience in the political field as a councillor, and that gave him the confidence to upgrade to a member of parliament.
He went on and won the election, defeating Stephen Mwangi. In 2002, he joined the then-winning coalition party National Rainbow Coalition Party(NARC).
After the National Rainbow Coalition Party(NARC) took over the party from Moi, Kamanda was re-elected as a Member of Parliament. In 2006, he was appointed as the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs until 2007.
In the 2007 General election, he was defeated by Margaret Wanjiru on an ODM ticket. But in 2013, Kamanda reclaimed the seat through the TNA Party, which later merged with URP and called Jubilee.
Again in 2017, when he wanted to retain the seat, he was defeated by ”Kigeugeu” hitmaker Charles Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar, However, he was nominated in the National Assembly by the Jubilee Party.
Upon approaching the 2022 General Election, Maina Kamanda had declared his bid to run for the Nairobi Senatorial Position.
