Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga on Saturday, October 7, made an emphatic entrance to a meeting named Kikuyu Men’s Conference held in Kenol, Murang’a County.
In a video taken from the venue, a multitude of men cheered Njenga and gathered around him to escort him towards the podium.
The men, in their thousands, engaged Njenga’s security detail in a push and pull game as they attempted to greet him.
A cloud of dust covered the Kimururi Stadium grounds momentarily due to the ensuing stampede in Njenga’s reception.
Meanwhile, a popular Kikuyu song was playing in the background with a section of the youth singing along to set an electrifying mood.
Later when he rose to the podium to address the conference, the craze was yet again manifested as the men followed his speech keenly with frequent applause.
Call for Unity
In his speech, Njenga called for the unity of the Kikuyu community, urging all leaders to come together regardless of the 2022 election outcome.
“There are two things you can’t get out of, our community and age set,” he stated.
The meeting was organized by former Nyeri gubernatorial candidate Thuo Mathenge popularly known as Wanguku.

Njenga has since become the subject of a widespread conversation with Kenyans already reading much from his emphatic reception.
Stephen Mutoro, the Secretary General of the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) noted that Njenga’s influence was a threat to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s grip of the Mount Kenya region.
“Let him dilute Maina Njenga’s influence with only one ammunition – firmly stand behind President Ruto and create employment opportunities for these idle and dangerous youth,” Mutoro noted.
Another one said, “That crowd is the reason Maina Njenga seems to be a threat and has always been bullied by the Government.”

Njenga’s appearance in the meeting came weeks after he accused the government of having abducted him and detained him illegally.
