Recently, several members of the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) have decamped to the United Democratic Party (UDA). However, some of the members of the party are still reluctant to join the ruling party even after Rigathi Gachagua’s ouster as deputy president.
ODM played a key role in impeaching the deputy president as the majority of members voted Yes to the impeachment cases.
As such, it was widely expected that ODM would be a key cog of the broad-based government and help President William Ruto deliver on his agenda.
Despite the recent happenings, the Governor of Siaya James Orengo has clarified that though some of the ODM members were appointed to various key positions in the Kenya Kwanza Government still the ODM remains firm in the opposition.
Speaking at Mukurusu village, Sinyalu Kakamega County James Orengo and the ODM Deputy party leader Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi promised the party will continue to agitate for better services to Kenyans.
“We as the party members of ODM must stand firm to ensure we protect the constitution that we voted for as Kenyans. In addition, we will ensure that Kenya is peaceful and that everything else moves on well in the Country,” Orengo asserted.

Rampant Decamping to UDA
Moreover, on October 29, a statement by the ruling party revealed that the Elgeyo Marakwet ODM chair Micah Kigen defected into UDA from the opposition.
In addition, on September 10, the UDA party also made a manifest of the ODM leaders from Marsabit who also decamped the opposition.
As though that is not enough, one of Azimio’s principals, Eugene Wamalwa, has also announced his exit on Saturday 2, in Webuye as he chaired the NEC meeting.

ODM Speaks on the Bill Seeking to Extend Term Limit
At the same time, they expressed opposition to a bill introduced by Nandi Senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei, which aims to extend the term limits for the president and all elected officials from five to seven years.
Osotsi noted that the bill does not originate from the Senate; rather, it reflects Cherargei’s personal agenda.
“He is the one who has brought the bill to the Senate, seeking to increase the term limit. When the time for discussion arrives, we will not support it,” Godfrey stated in a media statement.
He further, emphasized that five years are sufficient for leaders to fulfil their commitments to Kenyans.
