President Ruto has issued a stern warning to leaders spreading hate, tribalism and ethnicity.
Speaking in a rally in Kisumu on November 26, 2024, Ruto warned that he would not condone leaders spreading hate and disunity and such leaders would go home.
“I said that I will unite Kenya to become one. All those participating in spreading hate, tribalism and disunity will go home,” said Ruto.
He went on to justify his collaboration with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga to form a broad-based government, stating that it was a way of giving back to him for his support.

“Back in the day, I helped Raila and this time around he has helped me. Is there a problem with that?” added Ruto.
He went on to urge Kenyans to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) and affirmed his confidence in the Authority. He added that SHA will go a long way to iron out issues in the health sector.
These sentiments come against the backdrop of the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on the grounds of promoting ethnicity, misappropriation of public funds, and misleading the public through hateful and inciteful comments among other charges.

Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment
49 senators voted in favour of the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, 19 voted to indict him while three abstained from the process. The vote came on the second day of hearing the impeachment trial in the August House.
Rigathi was replaced by Kithure Kindiki who took oath on November 1, 2024, as the new Deputy President of Kenya. President Ruto named Kindiki as Gachagua’s successor within hours of his impeachment, but the court halted his inauguration following the challenges filed in court to block his inauguration.
The court later lifted the order paving way for parliament to confirm Kindiki’s nomination on October 18, 2024. Rigathi will go down in history as the first sitting deputy president to be impeached.
