The Azimio la Umoja coalition has postponed a scheduled anti-government rally that was set to be held on today at the Gusii Stadium.
Kisii County ODM Chairman Kerosi Ondieki confirmed that the rally has been moved to Friday, February 17.
He says the move was taken to allow for proper consultation and planning.
According to Ondieki, Kisii Governor Simba Arati has been tasked to lead the arrangement ahead of the mega rally.
“We have held consultations, and we want to give everyone a chance to attend the meeting. Kisii is home to the ODM party, and we would want to listen to every opinion,” Ondieki said.
On Sunday, a section of Kisii leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza coalition warned ODM leader Raila Odinga against holding anti-Ruto rallies in the region.
The leaders said that Azimio chiefs were not welcomed in the county.
Former Kisii Governor James Ongwae urged Kisii leaders to shun the rallies he said are hell-bent on painting the community as rebellious against President Ruto.
Ongwae regretted that the same leaders planning protests and rallies in Kisii had organized their regions to warmly receive the president and even benefited from his ‘generosity’.
“I plead with our leaders not to accept any shenanigans that are meant to paint our region as rebellious and disadvantage it from the much-planned development projects by President Ruto,” Ongwae said.

Raila has been leading the Azimio brigade in countrywide anti-government rallies through which he has continued to preach the gospel of stolen elections.
President William Ruto has however said that the opposition rallies will not destruct him from delivering on his promises to the people of Kenya.
