U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly outlined when he expects the current military conflict with Iran to end, asserting that the operation is progressing faster than anticipated and could conclude in roughly four weeks, a timeline he described as “ahead of schedule.”

In a phone interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Trump expressed confidence in the United States’ military performance, saying, “We’re knocking the crap out of them. I think it’s going very well. It’s very powerful. We’ve got the greatest military in the world, and we’re using it.”

When asked how long he believed the campaign might last, Trump replied, “I don’t want to see it go on too long. I always thought it would be four weeks, and we’re a little ahead of schedule.”

Trump Highlights Swift Progress

The president’s remarks come as U.S. and allied forces continue a highly aggressive series of strikes on Iranian military and leadership targets. Trump pointed to what he described as unusually rapid progress in eliminating key figures within Iran’s power structure.

“It was 49 leaders that were taken out. That was going to take four weeks, we thought, to get rid of the Iranian leadership,” Trump told anchor Bret Baier, noting that success came faster than planners expected.

“He said, ‘they’re talking about using people now that nobody ever heard of, even they don’t know,’” Baier reported. Trump suggested that new, lower‑profile figures might emerge but that the U.S. remains on track.

The president also referenced experiences in other conflicts, claiming that “the success they’re seeing right now in Venezuela is the success that he believes is possible in Iran based on what they know.” Baier added that from the president’s point of view, “it’s going as well or better than they expected going in.”

Contested Claims on Leadership and Outreach

In an interview with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, Trump elaborated on the impact of the strikes, stating bluntly that potential successors to Iran’s leadership “are all dead” because the attack was “so successful it knocked out most of the candidates.” Karl also reported Trump saying that someone from within the Iranian government has reached out to him, though he declined to disclose details, saying, “I probably shouldn’t tell you.”

Trump claimed that this contact suggests divisions within Iran’s leadership structure, noting that the individual reaching out was “no longer reporting to the Supreme Leader.”

Warning of Escalation

Despite the president’s optimism, diplomatic sources suggest that the conflict may not be so easily contained. Some diplomats from the Middle East, speaking to Baier, warned of possible counteroffensive measures in response to Iranian attacks that have already hit U.S. allies in the region.

“It has stiffened the spine of Gulf Arab states… and I think that we haven’t seen that EVER,” one diplomat said, indicating that regional support for sustained military action could complicate efforts to de‑escalate.

Supporting Trump’s own comments, CNN’s Pamela Brown reported that Trump told Tapper that “the big wave is yet to come,” indicating that the most intense phase of military action may be forthcoming. This suggests that, while some objectives have been achieved quickly, the campaign might escalate further before reaching its projected end.

Reporting indicates that Trump has also described the U.S. operation, referred to internally as “Operation Epic Fury,” as “moving along very well” and capable of sustaining itself for the intended four‑to‑five week timeframe if necessary.
