The Jubilee Party, which is headed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has announced that it will continue preparing for the 2027 elections despite the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between President Willim Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Monday, March 10, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni said the party will not leave the Azimio Coalition.

“We will not leave Azimio. ODM is the largest party in Azimio and Jubilee is the second. While we were there, they did not treat us well but that does not stop us from doing what we should do as a party,” he said.
He said the party will play the role of the opposition and keep Kenyans aware of issues happening in the country.

Kioni said Kenyans have decided that the Kenya Kwanza government must leave power in 2027.
“We will continue what we should and that is to prepare for elections and ensure that Kenyans are aware of what is being done,” he said.

Jubilee Party Rejects NADCO
Kioni said the Jubilee Party will reject the attempts to amend the Constitution through the National Dialogues Committee (NADCO) report without following the laid down procedures.
He said the Jubilee party was left out of the NADCO panel and made to sit in the Secretariat.
Kioni clarified that Jubilee did not sign the report since they were not part of the Panel.
“Anything that deals with the amendment of the Constitution as proposed by or in the NADCO report requires and referendum, without that those amendments will be unconstitutional,” he said.

Keeping Ruto in Power
He explained that the arrangement between the ODM and UDA parties is designed to keep Ruto in power in 2027, but the courts will eventually declare the amendments unconstitutional.
Kioni said Jubilee must step up and fill the gap left by ODM in the opposition.
“It is an opportunity for us to step in and do the best we can as Jubilee and that is what we have doing,” he said.

Raila Betrayal
However, Kioni said the party feels betrayed by Raila’s decision to work with Kenya Kwanza government.
He mentioned that even ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna looked betrayed by the MoU.
“Of course, we feel betrayed. When you say you are still part of Azimio and you have also entered into agreement, that is not tidy at all,” Kioni said.
Kioni said the opposition is now made up of Kenyans who are determined to achieve what their goal of voting out Ruto.
