Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi is yet again in trouble with Members of County Assembly (MCAs) who have called him out for mismanagement of county affairs.
While speaking during a press briefing outside the Kiambu County Assembly on August 29, the MCAs accused Governor Wamatangi of mismanagement, poor leadership, and inability to oversee the county’s development.
The MCA’s decried the state of county employees stating that chief officers are issued with one-month renewable contracts.
“The governor must constitute his government properly, as at now one year down the line the county does not have substantive chief officers, county secretaries and two county executive committee members,” stated Karuri MCA Peter Wainaina
Moreover, the Ward representatives claimed that since he assumed office, governor Wamatangi is unable to show the projects he has undertaken, save for the distribution of weeks-old chicks and fertilizer to farmers.

MCAs Want Office of the Auditor General Involved
Likewise, they criticized him for failing to submit the names of chief officers for approval to the assembly, a move that has seen him collaborate with those from former governor James Nyoro’s administration.
Kikuyu MCA Kamau Boro stated that, “We have an illegality of chief officers operating without being vetted by the county assembly, we are challenging the office of the auditor general to audit the issue of people getting money illegally.”
Additionally, Karuri MCA Peter Njoroge Wainaina, alleged that only Ksh.400 million of the 4.88 billion shillings set aside for development in the county in the previous financial year had been consumed as of April this year.
Furious Members of the Kiambu County Assembly further blamed the county boss for failing to formalize the engagement of his administration with casual workers, whom they alleged were irregularly fired after intense intimidation.

Furthermore, Githiga MCA Ruth Waithera accused Wamatangi of victimizing casual workers that have been present since present former governors’ Waititu and Nyoro’s tenure asking him to formalize their engagements.
“You cannot continue to play football politics with our casual workers, we will not take it lightly as our work is oversight and everyone employed in Kiambu county needs an employment contract,” Waithera said.
The MCAs are now demanding accountability and clear management of Kiambu County government affairs.
Not the First Impeachment Attempt for Wamatangi
However, this is not the first time Kiambu MCAs are threatening to impeach the governor.
In January 2023, the MCAs staged protests outside the Governor’s office accusing him of sidelining them in the running of county affairs.
According to the Ward representatives, Wamatangi belittled them and failed to involve them in the county’s affairs.
Nevertheless, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua saved the situation and brought the two warring parties to a truce.
