Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, has called for unity among Western religious leaders amid the rising political tensions in Western region.
In an event organized to support the expansion and renovation of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Wetangula urged Western leaders to advocate for collective action in advancing the region’s interests.

“While addressing the congregation at a fundraising event to support the expansion and renovation of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Bulimbo, Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County today, I urged the Western religion leaders to prioritize unity over personal agendas in order to effectively serve the people,” said Wetangula.
Further, the National Assembly Speaker, urged religious leaders to prioritize unity over personal agendas, pointing out that only through cohesion could they effectively address the needs of the people they serve.

Wetangula Calls for Cooperation
Wetangula also in his address called for cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration, stressing the need of collective strength in negotiations with governmental bodies.
He cautioned against the divisive politics that often hinder the region’s progress, urging leaders to set aside differences for the greater good of the community.

Acknowledging the efforts of the Western Members of Parliament caucus in promoting unity among political leaders, Wetangula commended their commitment to bridging divides.
“I laud the Western Members of Parliament caucus for their efforts to foster unity among the region’s political leadership,” said Wetangula.
He voiced the importance of bipartisan cooperation in addressing the longstanding issues that plague the region, explaining that unity should transcend political affiliations.

In his address, Wetangula sought to reassure attendees of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s dedication to addressing the region’s concerns, promising that discrimination would find no place in their governance approach.
In addition, Wetangula stated the administration’s commitment to equitable development, regardless of political leanings.

Rising Political Tensions in Western Region
In a continuing saga of political tensions within Trans Nzoia County, the recent burial ceremony of the wife of former nominated MCA Phillip Nyongesa erupted into chaos as supporters of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula clashed with those of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
Speaking in the aftermath of the chaotic confrontation, Speaker Wetangula urged restraint among western region leaders.
“There should be no sacred cows anywhere in this country. Kenya is a peaceful country. If we want to grow as a country, we need peace and respect amongst the citizenry,” stated Wetangula.
The violent clash drew strong condemnation from Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, who decried the incident as “embarrassing.”

She voiced the need for swift and uncompromising action from state agencies, warning, “Where there is no order, order will be brought by force, by fire.”
Natembeya’s recent accusations against Wetangula and other Western region leaders further exacerbated tensions.
“Our Luhya leaders have never sacrificed for anybody; they ride on opportunism and use their political parties to trade the community’s voting power,” said Natembeya.
