Musa Mohammed Mayieko is a former Harambee Stars captain and Gor Mahia defender who built a reputation as one of Kenya’s most dependable center-backs, leading both club and country while helping Kenya qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after a 15-year absence from the tournament.

Early Life and Education

Musa Mohammed Mayieko was born on June 6, 1991, in Nairobi, Kenya.

He grew up in the capital city and developed a passion for football at a young age.

Little verified public information is available about Musa’s primary and secondary education.

He began his football journey in the youth ranks of Gor Mahia FC, where he honed his skills before earning promotion to the senior team in 2010 at the age of 19.

Musa Mohammed’s Career

Gor Mahia (first spell: 2010–2017)

Musa Mohammed joined Gor Mahia in 2010 after being recruited while still a student at Langata High School, where he had helped the team win the national secondary schools championship in 2008 under the late coach James “Siang’a” Siang’ah.

He quickly established himself as a reliable center-back, earning a regular spot in Siang’ah’s squad and later becoming one of the most consistent defenders in the Kenyan Premier League.

During this spell, Mohammed was part of Gor Mahia’s modern dynasty, winning multiple league titles and domestic honors.

He featured in the club’s FKF Premier League-winning campaigns in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017, and also lifted the Kenyan Super Cup in 2017.

Over this period, he made 188 league appearances for Gor, scoring two league goals, and also made his mark in continental competition.

His leadership qualities saw him succeed club legend Jerry Onyango as Gor Mahia captain, a role he held for about a year and a half before his departure in 2018.

Despite interest from other clubs during Gor’s dominant years, Mohammed remained loyal to the K’Ogalo, reinforcing his reputation as a one-club man before eventually moving abroad.

KF Tirana (January–April 2018)

In January 2018, Musa Mohammed made his first move abroad, signing a two-year deal with Albanian top-flight side KF Tirana.

The transfer marked the end of his long first spell at Gor Mahia and was seen as a reward for his consistency and leadership in the Kenyan Premier League.

His time in Albania was short-lived. Mohammed managed only four league appearances for Tirana before leaving in April 2018.

He later cited personal and monetary issues, as well as difficulty adapting to the demands of European football, as key reasons for the early exit.

Nkana FC (July 2018–2020)

In July 2018, Musa Mohammed signed for Zambian giants Nkana Red Devils on a two-year contract.

At Nkana, Mohammed quickly became a regular in central defense, valued for his composure, aerial ability and leadership at the back.

He made 15 league appearances for the club between 2018 and 2020, contributing to Nkana’s push for top honors in the Zambian Super League.

In later interviews, he described Nkana as more professionally run than Gor Mahia, noting that his time at Gor had prepared him well for the demands of the Zambian setup.

His contract expired in 2020, after which he returned to Kenya to continue his career.

Kenya Police FC (2022–2024)

Musa Mohammed returned to Kenya in 2022 to join Kenya Police FC.

He was handed the captain’s armband and became a key figure in Police’s defense as the team established itself in the top flight.

During his time at Police, Mohammed made over 30 appearances and scored one league goal,.

He helped Kenya Police win the FKF Cup, converting a penalty in the decisive shootout against KCB in the final.

Return to Gor Mahia (2024–Present)

In the 2024/25 season, Musa Mohammed returned to Gor Mahia.

Mohammed features as a rotation option in central defense and across the full-back positions.

Family

Musa Mohammed Mayieko has largely kept his family life out of the public spotlight.

There is also no verified public record of Musa Mohammed’s net worth.
