Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced appointments in Executive Management. In a notice dated July 10, Nation Media Group Managing Director and CEO Geoffrey Odundo announced the appointment of Jane Muiruri as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Sekou Owino as General Counsel.
“Please join me in congratulating Jane and Sekou on their new roles and wishing them continued success as they take on these expanded responsibilities,” Odundo said.
Jane joined the Group as Senior HR Manager in April 2013 and has risen through the ranks to lead the HR function as Head of Human Resources.
Odundo said she will now take up an expanded role of CHRO, effective July 1, 2025.
In her new role, she will provide strategic oversight of the HR function across the Group
Jane is a seasoned Human Resources professional with over 25 years of progressive leadership experience across diverse sectors, including media, FMCG, international NGOs, logistics, and hospitality.
Education and Membership
She holds an MBA in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Human Resource Management (Kenya), and a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University.
She is a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
Besides, Jane is a certified Executive Leadership Coach from CDI Africa and a Prosci-certified Change Management Practitioner from Cedar Africa.
She has also undergone extensive training in leading and managing organizational transformation, including Women Directors Leadership Program (WDLP) and Senior Management Leadership Program (SMLP) from Strathmore Business School (SBS).

Sekou Owino Roles at Nation Media Group
On the other hand, Sekou Owino joined NMG in 2004 as Legal Officer and Assistant to the Group Company Secretary.
He has risen through the ranks to become Head of Legal Services and Training, a role he has held since 2013.
“Effective July 1, 2025, Sekou will take up the role of General Counsel and will provide strategic oversight of the Group’s legal and regulatory matters, including addressing key legal issues in the region and ensuring full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations,” Odundo said.
Sekou is a distinguished legal and corporate governance professional with over 25 years of experience spanning private legal practice, banking and the media industry.

Education & Awards
He holds a Bachelor of Law (Hons) from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Certified Public Secretary
Sekou’s professional excellence has been recognized with several awards, including being listed among the Top 50 In-House Lawyers at the 2025 Nairobi Legal Awards and being named the 2024 Honouree in the General Counsel Powerlist East Africa.
