Standard Chartered Bank has announced the appointment of two directors to its leadership team who are set to assume different roles on the Board.
In a notice published on Thursday, November 20, 2025, Company Secretary Judy Nyaga confirmed that these appointments are subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya and the Capital Markets Authority (CMA).
One of the appointees is Peter Gitau, who has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Gitau as a Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited. This appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Kenya and the Capital Markets Authority, and will take effect once the approvals are received,” the notice read in part.
Standard Chartered Bank Announces Fresh Appointments
Peter brings over 30 years of experience in banking, operations, technology, and audit, including 22 years in leadership roles at Standard Chartered Bank across Africa and Asia.
The Board recognized him for his expertise in business strategy, digital transformation, risk management, and operational excellence.
Peter has experience in improving operational efficiency, supporting business growth, and implementing client-focused digital solutions.

Until November 2024, Peter served as an Executive Director and the Chief Technology and Operations Officer of the Bank.
He previously held various senior positions within the Standard Chartered Group across multiple markets in Africa and Asia, and also worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The Standard Chartered Bank Board stated that his deep institutional knowledge, strategic insight, and experience in navigating complex regulatory environments will be invaluable in strengthening the Board’s oversight role. Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Kinya Komtho Appointed as Independent Non-Executive Director
In addition, the Company Secretary announced the appointment of Kinya Kimatho as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited. Kinya is a seasoned finance leader with over 25 years of experience in strategic finance, governance, and business transformation across Africa and Europe.
She has held senior leadership roles in multinational organizations, including Finance Director positions at GlaxoSmithKline, Nielsen, and Diageo’s East African Breweries.
Kinya currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Unga Group Plc and as a Regional Director at The Alpha Group.

Additionally, she is the founder of a fractional CFO practice that partners with businesses to enhance their strategy and financial management, and she is also an executive coach.
The Board stated that her extensive track record in finance leadership will add significant expertise to the Board.
Kinya holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Economics and Business Studies from Kenyatta University, a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nairobi, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
She is also a member of the Institute of Directors in both Kenya and the United Kingdom.
