The family of a Kenyan BBC journalist Sophie Ikenye is appealing to well-wishers for Ksh5 million medical support to aid in urgent medical surgery.
In a statement released on Saturday, Ikenye’s family stated that Sophie has been undergoing treatment in various medical facilities for the past eight (8) months.
“As a family, we have done everything possible to support her medical care, but we have now exhausted all available funds. We are reaching out to her family, friends, fans, and well-wishers to help us raise the Ksh5 million,” the statement read.
Additionally, the family requested the public to support them through prayers, kindness, and generous contributions.
How to contribute
To contribute, family, friends and well-wishers have been directed to use a dedicated M-PESA pay bill number (8060995), followed by the contributor’s name as the account number.

Her Early Life
She was born and raised in Nairobi and her parents are retired civil servants. As a child, she took part in public speaking and debate competitions that boosted her confidence.
Her passion for broadcasting started at a young age. She used to practice in front of a mirror with a spoon as a microphone.
