Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has selected a transition committee to run Kenya football affairs for a period of five weeks.
The committee assumes authority to manage the country’s game due to the end of the mandate of the caretaker body which was formed in November, 2021 for a similar purpose.
The CS had first set up the caretaker committee in the previous year after she disbanded the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over purported financial irregularities during its tenure.
Moreover, the previous committee’s six-month period ended on Tuesday, May 2022. In that accord, CS Amina has created a transition committee largely comprising of the same people headed by retired judge Aaron Ringera.
In a gazette notice, CS Amina said the mandate of the Transition Committee shall be to:
• Conduct the affairs of Football Kenya Federation in accordance with the Constitution of Football Kenya Federation
• Ensure that Football Kenya Federation operates within the provisions of the Sports Act, 2013
• Co-ordinate and ensure the smooth running of Football Kenya Federation operations, including team preparations for local and international sporting events
• Co-ordinate and facilitate the validation of the draft Constitution of Football Kenya Federation.
