Kenya has continued its strong tradition at the Commonwealth Games, with athletes delivering medal-winning performances across track and field events in Glasgow.
Historic achievements, record-breaking runs and strong performances from stars including Faith Cherotich, Lilian Odira, Timothy Cheruiyot and Ferdinand Omanyala have highlighted Team Kenya’s campaign.
So far, Kenya has collected gold, silver and bronze medals in steeplechase, middle-distance races, long-distance events and field competitions.
Faith Cherotich, Mathew Kipsang and Edmund Serem Deliver Gold Medals
Faith Cherotich produced one of Kenya’s biggest moments of the Games after winning gold in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, setting a new Commonwealth Games record.
Cherotich clocked 9:01.76 to lower the Games record and secure Kenya’s second gold medal of the competition.

Mathew Kipsang also delivered a gold medal performance for Kenya in the men’s 5000m, winning the race in 13:28.81, adding to Kenya’s dominance in distance running.
In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Kenya swept the podium in a historic display of strength. Edmund Serem won gold, Simon Koech claimed silver, while Leonard Bett took bronze.
Odira, Cheruiyot and Kinyamal Dominate in Commonwealth games
World champion Lilian Odira claimed silver in the women’s 800m after recording 2:00.58. Odira was among Kenya’s biggest medal hopes heading into the Games after establishing herself as one of the leading names in global middle-distance running.
Diana Wanza also secured a silver medal for Kenya in the women’s 10,000m.
In the men’s 800m, Wycliffe Kinyamal won bronze, adding another medal in a race that has traditionally been a strong event for Kenyan athletes.
Former world 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot also made the podium after finishing third in the men’s one mile. Scotland’s Josh Kerr won gold in 3:54.12, while Australia’s Cameron Myers took silver in 3:55.26.
Cheruiyot had entered the competition among Kenya’s experienced medal contenders after being named in the national squad alongside other leading athletes.
Omanyala’s Title Defense Ends as Kenya Makes History in Javelin
Kenya’s sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala was unable to defend his Commonwealth Games 100m title after exiting at the semifinal stage.
Omanyala, who won gold in the men’s 100m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, finished sixth in his semifinal race after clocking 10.19 seconds. Omanyala was Kenya’s biggest medal hopes heading into Glasgow after being named as the team’s sprint headline act.
Irene Jepkemboi won bronze in Javelin after throwing 57.87 meters, becoming the first Kenyan woman to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the event.

Millions Kenya Commonwealth Games Medalists Will Earn After Gold, Silver and Bronze Wins
Under the government’s revised Commonwealth Games reward scheme, each Kenyan athlete who wins a gold medal will receive KSh2.5 million.

Silver medalists will earn KSh1.5 million while bronze medalists will pocket KSh1 million.
The enhanced incentives are an increase from the rewards paid during the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, when gold medalists received KSh500,000, silver medalists KSh300,000, and bronze medalists KSh200,000.
The revised package was announced ahead of the Games by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, who said the payments had been approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
“Any gold medal will receive KSh2.5 million, a figure that the SRC has already approved. This is government money, and we work with government agencies that have approved this amount,” Mwangi said.
He added that silver medalists would receive KSh1.5 million, up from KSh300,000 at the previous Games.
