Kenyan athletes who will participate in the upcoming Commonwealth Games are set to start departing the country on Friday, July 22.
The Commonwealth Games commence on July 28 to August, 8 in Birmingham, England.
Moreover, the first batch of teams leaving the country tomorrow include; athletics, boxing, squash, hockey, badminton, cycling, swimming, table tennis, triathlon, lawn bowls, and para-cycling players.
In addition, the Kenyan athletes currently in Oregon for the World Athletics Championships will connect directly to Birmingham.
Likewise, the Games’ Chef de Mission, John Ogolla, and the Chief Executive Officer, Humphrey Kayange left the country on Sunday, July 17 to ensure everything is in place for the team’s arrival for the quadrennial Club Games including Covid-19 compliance.
Nonetheless, PCR tests started On Wednesday, July 20 at the Residential Camp in Moi Stadium Kasarani for teams traveling on Friday.
Likewise, a checklist was issued to all team managers to ensure the athletes have traveling documents in place and everything they require days before departure.
Furthermore, the Kenya Sevens team will start their 2022 Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens campaign with a match against neighbors and archrivals Uganda Friday, July 29 from 12.50 pm EAT at the Coventry Stadium.
Kenya are in Group D against Uganda, Jamaica and Australia.

Moreover, a total 16 teams will be contesting for the gold medal. Kenya will also face Jamaica at 8.58pm before winding up their pool matches on Saturday with a clash against Australia at 12.50pm.
Group A has New Zealand who will have a face off against England, Samoa and Sri Lanka. In addition, Group B consists of African giants South Africa, Scotland, Tonga and Malaysia whereas Group C features Tokyo Olympic gold medalists Fiji, Canada, Wales and Zambia.
Nonetheless, 53 athletes including, 32 men and 20 women will represent Kenya I the commonwealth games. However, in total Kenya will have 127 sports men and women in different fields.
