Kenyan passport holders have access to a growing number of destinations around the world without the need to obtain a visa before travel.
In 2026, the Kenyan passport remains among the strongest in East Africa, giving citizens access to dozens of destinations through visa-free entry and visa-on-arrival arrangements, ranking at 68th globally according to the 2026 Henley Passport Index.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano described Kenya’s improved passport ranking as a milestone in Kenya’s global partnerships and stability, citing that in 2025 it had ranked t 73rd globally.
“A stronger Kenyan passport enhances ease of movement for our people while reinforcing Kenya’s reputation as a stable, welcoming, and globally connected destination,” Rebecca Miano stated.

How to Apply for a Visa-on-Arrival
While the requirements for visa-on-arrival vary from one country to another, Kenyan travelers are advised by embassies and travel experts to confirm that their chosen destination offers visa-on-arrival facilities.
In addition, the traveler should ensure that the passport is valid, as many countries require at least six months of validity from the date of entry and enough blank pages for immigration stamps.
Before traveling, visitors should prepare all the necessary supporting documents, including a return or onward ticket.
Upon arrival at the airport, seaport, or designated border crossing, travelers are usually required to complete an immigration or visa application form.
Travelers will then be required to pay the applicable visa fee, if one is charged, based on the Payment methods accepted in the country.
After submitting the required documents and paying the visa fee, travelers will present their passport to an immigration officer for verification.
Once the visa has been issued, the traveler can proceed through immigration and enter the country.
Travel Requirements
Although visa-free travel removes the need for advance visa applications, visitors must still comply with immigration requirements at their destination.
Most destination countries require travelers to present a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
Additionally, the traveler must produce proof of onward or return travel and evidence of accommodation arrangements.
Further, Kenyan travelers must have proof of sufficient funds to cover expenses for the duration of their stay and have relevant health and vaccination compliance documents.
In addition, travelers are required to verify the immigration rules before departure and the visa policies and entry requirements.
