Kenya Airways PLC (KQ) has announced the appointment of Principal Secretary (PS) of the State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Teresia Mbaika, as a director of the Company.
In a notice on 22 July, Kenya Airways’ Company Secretary, Habil A. Waswani, stated that Teresia has been appointed as the representative of the Ministry of Roads and Transport on the Board.
“The Board of Directors of Kenya Airways Plc hereby announces the appointment of the Principal Secretary, State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Teresia Mbaika, CBS, as a director of the Company (being the representative of the Ministry of Roads and Transport, on the Board) with effect from 18th July 2025,” the notice reads.
Kenya Airways’ Board explained that Mbaika’s appointment constitutes an institutional and corporate directorship, replacing the position currently held by Transport PS Mohamed Daghar.
Kenya Airways Says Teresia Mbaika is Experienced
Mbaika previously served as the PS of the State Department for Devolution before President William Ruto reshuffled the Cabinet in March 2025.
“She brings to the Board over a decade of experience in corporate governance, resource mobilisation, strategic management, leadership, and public finance management,” said KQ.
Roles at NuPEA & NEMA
PS Mbaika served a six-year term as a Board Member at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA).
She held various roles, including Chairperson of the Technical Committee, Chairperson of the Audit Committee, Chairperson of the Human Resource Committee, and Member of the Publicity & Advocacy Committee.
The PS also served as a Board Member of the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) for a three-year term.
Her roles included Chairing the Technical, Finance, and Administration Committees, as well as serving as a Member of the Audit Committee.

Kaiti Constituency CDF Board
Additionally, PS Mbaika served as Secretary to the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) Board for Kaiti Constituency from 2013 to 2017.
During her tenure, Mbaika provided strategic leadership in financial management and governance oversight of the Fund.
“The Board, Management, and Staff of Kenya Airways Plc congratulate PS Mbaika on her appointment and sincerely thank PS Mohamed Daghar, who now exits the Board, for his invaluable contributions, professionalism, and dedication during his tenure,” the notice adds.

Education and Trainings
PS Mbaika holds a Master of Science Degree in Health Economics and Policy from the University of Nairobi, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health from Kenyatta University.
She has also attended numerous trainings and conferences spanning the Energy Sector, Leadership, and Corporate Governance among others.
