Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Musalia Mudavadi has announced the exit of Norway’s Ambassador to Kenya, Gunnar Andreas Holm.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 11, Mudavadi wished Ambassador Holm success, good health, and fulfilment in his future endeavours.
He went on to convey Kenya’s readiness to warmly welcome his successor as the two nations continue to strengthen their enduring partnership.
“Today, we marked the conclusion of H.E. Amb. Gunnar Andreas Holm’s remarkable tenure as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Kenya—a period defined by impactful service and strengthened ties between our two nations,” Mudavadi said.
“Looking back on the journey we have shared, I expressed Kenya’s deep appreciation to the Kingdom of Norway and the Royal Norwegian Embassy for their invaluable contributions to our national and regional development.”

Mudavadi stated that over the years, Kenya and Norway have made significant progress across a wide range of areas, including peace and security, multilateral collaboration, the blue economy and sustainable fisheries.
Others listed were climate change, environmental protection, gender equality, human rights, and humanitarian support.

He added that the Embassy’s engagement had a far-reaching impact beyond Kenya—strengthening regional cooperation and integration and contributing to stability and prosperity across the Horn of Africa.
“Initiatives such as the Tumaini Initiative have provided vital platforms for dialogue, consensus-building, and innovative policy solutions that continue to benefit the wider region,” Mudavadi noted.
Gunnar Andreas Holm has been serving as Norway’s Ambassador to Kenya, Somalia, and Seychelles, as well as the Permanent Representative to UNEP and UN-Habitat, since September 2021.
Prior to this role, he was Norway’s Ambassador to Ghana from 2017 to 2021 and to South Sudan from 2016 to 2017.

About Gunnar Holm
Ambassador Holm has had a distinguished career in the Norwegian Foreign Ministry spanning nearly three decades.
He has held various diplomatic posts abroad, including Minister Counsellor at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in South Sudan (2014–2016) and Counsellor at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa (2008–2011).
At the ministry’s headquarters, Holm has served in several senior roles, such as Acting Special Envoy and Policy Director for Sudan/South Sudan (2013–2014), Senior Advisor in the European Department (2006–2008), and Senior Advisor for the Horn of Africa (2005–2006).
He also served as Acting Assistant Director General in both the Section for East and Southern Africa (2005) and the Section for Southern and Western Africa (2004).
Ambassador Holm holds a master’s degree in social Anthropology from the University of Oslo.
