The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has directed coastal beachgoers and fishermen to temporarily suspend their activities following a strong wind advisory.
The directive comes amid warnings of thunderstorms and rough sea conditions expected along the coast.
In a statement issued on Friday, April 24, the Ministry said government rescue and recovery agencies are on high alert as rainfall is expected to intensify over the weekend, particularly along the Coast and in the Northeastern and Southeastern lowlands.
“Beach users and fishermen should suspend movement during periods of strong winds, rough conditions, and thunderstorms,” the notice reads in part.
The Ministry noted that current weather conditions have already caused serious impacts, including the displacement of residents, the collapse of houses, the flooding of public and private facilities, and damage to electrical infrastructure.

The public has been advised to exercise extreme caution due to the increased risk of flooding, strong winds, and lightning strikes.
During thunderstorms, Kenyans have been asked to avoid standing under trees, near metal fences, on rooftops, in open compounds, on the beach, or in small boats.
Floods Advisory
According to government advisories, residents in low-lying or structurally unsafe areas should relocate early to safer ground and follow guidance from local administrators and emergency teams.
“Stay away from and report damaged electricity poles and fallen cables, that may have live current to local authorities and Kenya Power,” the Ministry warned.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of continued rainfall and potential flooding in various parts of the country, with heavier downpours expected along the coastal region.
Residents have been urged to remain alert as strong winds and possible thunderstorms are forecast across several counties.

Rainfall is expected to continue in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Coast, and Northeastern Kenya, with isolated heavy rainfall events likely to occur in some of these regions.
“Rainfall expected over several parts of the country with enhanced intensity over the coastal region. Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, and coastal counties,” Kenya Met said.
Temperatures will remain high in the lowland areas, while cooler night temperatures are likely in the highland regions
