The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has shared a five-day weather forecast covering the period from December 23 to December 27, as Christmas approaches. In its forecast published on Monday, December 22, 2025, Kenya Met stated that occasional rainfall is expected over the southern half of the country.
The department also listed five regions that are likely to experience rainfall during the forecast period.
According to the weatherman, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to experience morning rains over a few places, with afternoon showers in some areas throughout the forecast period, with the only exception being Tuesday, December 23, when showers and thunderstorms over a few places are expected.
There will be showers at night in three regions.
Kenya Met Issues 5 Day Weather Forecast
Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.
For Nairobi and its environs, which fall within the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Kenya Met forecasts cloudy mornings breaking into sunny intervals.

Afternoons are expected to be marked by showers over a few places, though some afternoons may experience sunny intervals alongside showers and occasional thunderstorms.
Nights will have showers over a few places during the forecast period.
Weather Forecast for Nairobi and its Environs
Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
In the South-eastern lowlands region, comprising Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, mornings are expected to be cloudy with light rains breaking into sunny intervals.
Afternoons will experience showers in a few places, except on December 25 and 26, when sunny intervals are expected. Nights will have a chance of showers over a few places throughout the forecast period.
In the Coast region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, Kenya Met predicts morning showers over a few places throughout the forecast period.
Afternoon weather conditions are expected to vary, including showers and thunderstorms over a few places, sunny intervals, and occasional showers. Nights will generally experience showers over a few places, except on Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, when conditions will be partly cloudy.
KMD Warns of Strong Southeasterly Winds in Marsabit County
In the North-eastern region, sunny intervals are expected to dominate mornings during the forecast period, except on Tuesday, December 23, when rain is expected over a few places. Afternoons will mainly experience sunny intervals, with a chance of showers over a few places on December 24. Nights will remain partly cloudy throughout the forecast period.
Counties in this region include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo. Kenya Met further warned that strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over Marsabit County.

In the Northwestern region, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, sunny intervals are expected to dominate both mornings and afternoons during the entire forecast period, while nights will be partly cloudy.
