Nairobi Estates Expected to Experience Heavy Rainfall This Week
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, the central and south-western parts of Nairobi are expected to record the highest rainfall totals during the forecast period.
The agency notes that areas including Westlands, Upper Hill, Kibra, Dagoretti, Lang’ata, and Karen are projected to receive between 60 and 80 millimeters of rainfall.
Kenya Met further indicates that localized zones within these areas may receive 80 to 100 millimeters over the period.
The rainfall pattern is described as persistent and relatively heavy, suggesting prolonged wet conditions across the affected estates.
The department warns that such rainfall levels may increase the risk of localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

In the northern and northeastern parts of the county, including Kasarani, Roysambu, Zimmerman, Githurai, Kahawa West, and parts of Ruaraka, rainfall is expected to be moderate, with amounts mostly between 40 and 60 millimeters.
Some isolated areas in the north show slightly higher totals, but overall, the rainfall here is lighter than in the southwest.
Meanwhile, the eastern parts of Nairobi, including Ruai, Mihango, Njiru, and sections of Embakasi, are forecast to receive the lowest rainfall amounts, with totals mainly below 40 millimeters over the period.

The agency notes that streamflow forecasts indicate rising water levels at key monitoring stations across the region.
At Garissa, water levels are expected to average about 6.4 meters during the forecast period.
In Saka, Hola, and Garsen, water levels are projected to rise to approximately 4.8 meters, 5.1 meters, and 4.2 meters, respectively.
Despite the projected levels, Kenya Met indicates that the situation presents a high risk of flooding across the basin during the forecast period.
Authorities have cautioned residents in the affected areas to remain alert due to the elevated flood risk associated with the anticipated rainfall.
