Beatrice Elachi Kadeveresia is a Kenyan politician, legislator, and former Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly, currently serving as Member of Parliament for Dagoretti North Constituency.
Education
Beatrice Elachi was born in 1973 in Kakamega County.
Elachi attended St. Teresa’s Primary School in Kakamega County for her primary education before joining Moi Girls Vokoli High School in Vihiga County for her secondary education.
In 2000, she obtained a Certificate in Peace Building and Conflict Resolution at Tangaza University College and another Certificate in Gender and Development at Collaborative Center Kenya in 2005.
From 2010 to 2013, Elachi attended the African Nazarene University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Peace and Conflict Studies.
She came back to African Nazarene University in 2014 to study for her Master’s degree in Peace, Governance and Security Studies and graduated in 2016.
Career
Professional career
Elachi began her career in gender advocacy and capacity building, working with UN Women, the Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development, and the National Council of Women of Kenya from 2005 and 2007.
In 2009, Elachi became the Executive Director of The League of Kenya Women Voters, a role she held till 2010.
She entered politics as Secretary-General of the Alliance Party of Kenya (2010–2013), which later joined the Jubilee coalition.
Political career
In 2013, she was nominated to the Senate, where she served as Majority Chief Whip, becoming the first woman to hold that position.
In September 2017, Elachi was elected Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly. Her term was marked by leadership disputes and impeachment attempts, and she resigned in August 2020.
In 2021, she was appointed Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes, a role she held until 2022.
In August 2022, Elachi was elected as Dagoretti North MP on an ODM ticket, increasing her recognition for legislative performance and constituency development, notably by Uwazi Africa in 2024.
Advocacy
Elachi has promoted women’s political participation through training, mentorship, and scholarships.
She secured 1,000 scholarships from the European Business University of Luxembourg for Kenyan women leaders and has advocated for community learning hubs to support online education.
She has also provided support to orphans from ethnic clashes in Tana River.
