Delvin Mudigi, popularly known by his stage name ‘Savara’, was born May 25, 1987, in Nairobi, Kenya, and is a Grammy-certified artist, producer, and cultural entrepreneur.

Best known as a founding member, vocalist, and lead producer of the acclaimed band Sauti Sol, Savara has played an instrumental role in shaping Kenya’s contemporary music landscape.

He is currently in a relationship with Yvonne Endo.

Early Life and Education

Savara’s passion for music was cultivated at home. His father’s love for reggae and Lingala, his mother’s spiritual hymns, and his exposure to pop music on television laid the foundation for his eclectic sound.

He attended Upper Hill High School, where he met Bien Baraza, Willis Chimano, and Polycarp Otieno, who would later become his future bandmates.

Later, he pursued higher education at Africa Nazarene University, earning a degree in Commerce and Finance.

His business acumen was further sharpened through executive training at the Stanford Seed Transformation Program, equipping him with skills that have since informed his entrepreneurial ventures.

Career with Sauti Sol

In 2005, Savara co-founded Sauti Sol, a band that would go on to become one of Africa’s most successful music groups.

The group’s name, meaning “voices in the sun,” evolved from their original ensemble Voices in the Light after guitarist Polycarp joined.

Sauti Sol’s journey was initially guided by the late Jahmby Koikai (Fyah Mama), their first manager, whom the band fondly honored after her death in 2024 for her formative influence on their career.

Savara’s production genius and vocals were central to the band’s celebrated albums, including Mwanzo (2009), Sol Filosofia (2011), Live and Die in Afrika (2015), African Sauce (2019), and Midnight Train (2020).

His artistry helped deliver global hits and establish Sauti Sol as cultural ambassadors of African music.

Savara’s Solo Career

Beyond the band, Savara has carved out a strong identity as a solo artist.

His debut project, Savage Level, showcased his genre-bending versatility, blending Afrobeat, R&B, reggae, and experimental sounds.

Popular tracks such as Show You Off, Sianda, Balance, Changes, Reggae Ya Kinyozi, Aspirin, and Fashionista highlight his creative range.

He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in East African and African music, including Trio Mio, Benzema, Wakadinali, Nyashinski, Fathermoh, Brandy Maina, Thee Exit Band, Harmonize, Jay Melody, Nikita Kering’, Femi One, Bensoul, Nvirii the Storyteller, Kaskazini, and Karun.

These collaborations reflect his ability to transcend genres while nurturing Kenya’s vibrant music scene.

Savara also co-founded Sol Generation Records & Publishing, a platform that has launched and nurtured rising stars such as Bensoul and Nvirii.

His role as both an artist and a cultural entrepreneur underscores his dedication to nurturing African talent.

Awards and Recognition

Savara’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. He won a Kalasha Film and TV Award for Best Original Score for the film Disconnect, underscoring his prowess as a producer beyond mainstream music.

In 2022, he was named Spotify EQUAL Africa Artist of the Month, recognized for amplifying African voices globally.

As part of Sauti Sol, he has also earned multiple accolades, including international recognition tied to their groundbreaking albums and cultural influence.

Whether producing chart-topping hits, mentoring new talent, or redefining his solo sound, he continues to shape the future of Kenyan and African music.

Savara Mudigi’s story reflects resilience, transformation, and the strength of collaboration. From co-founding Sauti Sol and helping it rise to international acclaim, to carving out his own path as a solo artist, he has shown remarkable talent as both a singer and producer.
