Alexander Mundigi Munyi is the current Senator for Embu County, elected in 2022 on a Democratic Party (DP) ticket.
He is 59 years old as of 2025.
Mundigi previously vied for office several times before his current success, unsuccessfully contesting parliamentary seats in 2007 and 2013, and coming second in the 2017 senatorial race.

Educational Background of Alexander Mundigi
Alexander Mundigi began his formal education at Irabari Primary School and continued at a private secondary school in Embu County between 2013 and 2016 as a private candidate.
Later, he pursued theological studies, earning a Diploma in Biblical Studies from the International School of Ministries (2018–2022), and a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Covenant Theology Seminary in North Carolina (2019–2022), with the latter obtained through an online learning program.
Career Background
Mundigi dedicated much of his career to public service at Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), where he worked for approximately three decades (1987–2017) as a Building and Construction Administrator across the Kiambere, Masinga, and Kamburu power stations.
During this period, he also played several roles in the transport and union sectors, managing Matatu operations, being a union leader, and chairing Kenya Anglican Youth Organisation between 1980 and 1990.
Since 2017, he has served as Executive Director at Hydros Investment Ltd.
Mundigi’s first political attempt was in 2007, when he unsuccessfully contested for the Mbeere South parliamentary seat on a Democratic Party ticket.

Undeterred, he mounted a successful campaign in August 2022, winning the Senate seat for Embu County, defeating high-profile competitors despite limited funds and no campaign posters.
Voters rallied around his visibility and grassroots connections, earning him the slogan “Kava Mundigi twonaga” (“We value Mundigi who is always present”).
He was formally sworn in as Senator on August 16, 2022.
Within the Senate, he serves as Vice Chair of the Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Committee, and sits on the Power and Privileges Committee as well as the Labour and Social Welfare Committee.
