Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has indicated she may run again in 2028, saying she remains undecided about her political future following her defeat in the 2024 election.
Harris suggested she could run again during a live video call on Monday with author Sharon McMahon, where she repeatedly stated that she has not yet made a final decision about a future campaign.
When asked whether she would seek the presidency again during a rapid-fire “lightning round” segment that included a mix of personal and political topics, Kamala revealed she was still undecided about another run for president but said she “might” give it another go.
“Last question,” McMahon said. “Everybody here wants to know the answer. Will you run again?” “I haven’t decided,” Harris replied.

When McMahon asked whether she was still considering a campaign, Harris answered, “I might.”
McMahon told Harris that after reading her recent memoir, 107 Days, she had the impression that the former vice president intended to run again.

Kamala rejected that interpretation, saying the book was meant only to document her experience during a specific period.
“No, the book is about a specific period in time,” Harris said. “There was no agenda beyond what we’ve discussed already, which is just sharing with people the reality of the experience and hopefully allowing people to see something of themselves in it.”
Kamala said the memoir was intended to allow readers to understand the experience of running for president and to inspire younger generations.
The book 107 Days, released late last year, chronicles Harris’s abbreviated 2024 presidential campaign after then-President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.
Biden’s withdrawal suddenly elevated Harris as the Democratic Party’s nominee in a shortened campaign that lasted just over three months.
The memoir became one of the best-selling political books of the year and focuses on the period between Biden’s withdrawal and the November election.
Kamala has previously hinted that she could run again. In an October 2025 interview with the BBC, Harris suggested she remained committed to public service and left open the possibility of seeking the presidency again.
“I am not done,” Harris said during the interview. “I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones.”

During the same interview, the former vice president expressed confidence that the United States would eventually elect a woman president.
Asked whether she could be that president, Kamala replied, “Possibly,” while emphasizing that she had not yet made a final decision.
Harris said she continues to see herself as an active participant in American politics despite her 2024 election defeat.
She also indicated that polling numbers would not determine her decision, noting that she had often pursued political office despite unfavorable predictions.
“If I listened to polls, I would have not run for my first office, or my second office — and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she said.
The former vice president lost the 2024 presidential election to President Donald Trump by more than two million votes and 86 electoral votes.
The defeat marked the end of her first presidential bid after previously seeking the Democratic nomination in 2020 before joining Biden’s ticket as vice president.
As of the time of publication, Harris has not registered as a candidate with the U.S. Federal Election Commission for the 2028 presidential race.
