US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Iran following the collapse of high-level nuclear negotiations, accusing Tehran of refusing to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
In a strongly worded statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said Iran had failed to uphold commitments related to keeping the waterway open, warning that its actions were disrupting global shipping and undermining international norms.
Rising Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz
Trump has accused Iran of interfering with maritime traffic and warned that the situation was causing widespread uncertainty among global shipping operators.
According to Trump, Iran had promised to open the Strait of Hormuz, but they have failed to do so, causing anxiety and dislocation to many countries.

Trump has also revealed that Iran’s mines have all been destroyed, which they warned of putting in the waters.
Trump also accused Iran of breaking all set laws.
“They say they put mines in the water, even though all of their Navy, and most of their “mine droppers,” have been completely blown up. They may have done so, but what ship owner would want to take the chance? There is great dishonor and permanent harm to the reputation of Iran, and what’s left of their “Leaders,” but we are beyond all of that. As they promised, they better begin the process of getting this intrnational Warterway open and fast! Every Law in the book is being violated by them,” said Trump
U.S. officials have indicated that military efforts are underway to secure and maintain safe passage, including operations to address potential threats to commercial vessels.
Iran has previously signaled that it could leverage control over the strait in response to external pressure, making the waterway a recurring flashpoint in U.S.-Iran relations.
Failed Islamabad Talks between Washinton and Tehran
Trump’s remarks come after 21 hours of negotiations held in Islamabad, Pakistan, involving senior U.S. officials and Iranian representatives.
According to U.S. officials, the talks were aimed at de-escalating tensions and reviving a framework to limit Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump confirmed he had been briefed by Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, all of whom participated in the discussions.

Despite what he described as progress on several fronts, Trump said the central issue of Iran’s nuclear program remained unresolved.
“The meeting with Iran began early in the morning and lasted throughout the night — Close to 20 hours. I could go into great detail, and talk about much that has been gotten but, there is only one thing that matters — IRAN IS UNWILLING TO GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS! In many ways, the points that were agreed to are better than us continuing our Military Operations to conclusion, but all of those points don’t matter compared to allowing Nuclear Power to be in the hands of such volatile, difficult, unpredictable people,” added Trump.
Iranian representatives, including senior officials from Tehran, reportedly maintained their position on continuing nuclear development, which U.S. negotiators view as a potential pathway to weapons capability.
Diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran has remained fragile since the breakdown of earlier agreements, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which had placed limits on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
